This two bedroom residence with attached accessory dwelling unit (ADU) features a generous covered outdoor living space while taking advantage of Lake Washington and Mount Rainier Views to the southeast. Intersecting ‘blocks’, one containing living spaces and the ADU and the other bedrooms and the garage, are offset in both plan and section beneath a single sloped roof. A switchback stair at the overlap of the two blocks vertically connects the split-levels of the house. The plan offset creates diagonally opposed exterior spaces: the street facing entry and the view facing deck. The section offset enhances views from the living spaces by lifting them a half-floor from the entry, while providing various levels of the house direct access to defined exterior spaces. The simple material palate of painted hardi-plank and hardi-panel siding, aluminum clad windows and painted GWB interiors are appropriate to the modest construction budget.
