A new second story containing a master bedroom suite is being added to this 1950’s single-story house with daylight basement. Like many houses built during the 50’s, this house was comprised of modest interior spaces with low ceiling heights. In adding the second story, a new shed roof also spans the existing living and dining rooms creating a double height volume with expansive windows facing the view north of Puget Sound and Whidbey Island. On the uphill side of the house, the corner has been carved to allow for a pair of slide fold exterior doors giving access from the living room to an at grade terrace. Major materials include natural cement fiber panel and stained cedar channel siding, reclaimed stone veneer, clear finished plywood soffits and Zincalume sheet metal roofing.
