The Hill House is one of the most challenging projects we’ve worked on. Located on a very steeply sloping undeveloped lot, when completed this house will enjoy unobstructed views of the downtown Seattle skyline and Mt. Rainier. The property begins where the existing improved street ends just at the top of the slope. A new concrete structure will be constructed in the right-of-way to provide vehicular access to the site. The house is comprised of a simple 3 story cube that sits upon two concrete retaining walls on the uphill side and a single fin wall below. This fin evolves into a folded brow that provides protection at the major window and door openings on the South facing side of the residence. An elevated, wood-framed parking deck forms a bridge that connects the house back to the access structure above. Major materials include painted cement fiber & tight knot cedar rain screen siding, Kynar coated sheet metal fin wall, aluminum windows and a GreenGrid green roof.
