The remodel of this 820 SF house in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood represents a comprehensive reconstruction phased over a 12 year span. On the interior each room was stripped to the structure, re-wired, insulated and refinished. An existing front porch was incorporated as interior space providing an entry foyer and increasing the perceived size of the main living space. The kitchen was rearranged and French doors leading to a new rear yard deck were added – again making an otherwise modest house feel much larger. On the exterior windows, siding and roofing were removed and replaced. The final phase of this remodel involved the addition of a 200 SF detached studio in the rear yard (see Ballard Studio) that functioned both as a work at home office and an occasional guest room.
